When Wales based UK wide sealant specialist S & D Sealants thought it could spot an opportunity to grow and capture potentially lucrative new markets during the dark days of recession – it turned to Kilsby & Williams for some specialist help.

S & D Managing Director Nick Jones knew that the recession hit UK construction sector could only improve, and he wanted to ensure his business was primed and in the perfect place to cash in on that recovery by growing new markets and expanding across the south west of England, Yorkshire and Scotland.

That expansion was made possible thanks to a £150,000 Finance Wales package organised by Kilsby & Williams’ partner Simon Tee, who co-ordinated and brokered the small business financial support that has since proved to be a game changer for the rapidly growing Chepstow based company.

Simon continues to work closely with Nick and S & D, providing commercial advice, business growth support and tax planning advice for the senior team. He also attends all S & D board meetings to provide specialist business guidance.

Simon Tee said: “Nick came to us with a plan for his business to expand and we worked out how to put that plan into action. The raising of finance at the time was certainly a challenge, but we succeeded in bringing in Finance Wales which provided the necessary funding to enable S & D Sealants to grow into one of the main players in its sector in the UK.

There remain a lot of businesses in south Wales which are unable to put their growth plans into action because of the perceived lack of funding opportunities, but they need to be aware that finance – and specialist help like ours – is certainly available to make those plans happen.
